San Francisco holds onto top spot

Week 1 Regular Season Northern California Signal The Light Basketball Rankings

San Francisco (3-0): The Rams opened the week with three straight wins and remain our number one team in Northern California. San Francisco opened the season up with a 102-69 victory over Yuba, and followed that up with a 79-53 win over Santa Rosa. On Sunday, the Rams made a statement with a 94-65 thrashing of East Los Angeles as the Rams played three ranked opponents and averaged 29.3 points per win. San Francisco will look for their fourth straight win this week as the Rams will host Cabrillo (1-1) in their lone game of the week at home on Friday evening.

2. Columbia (2-0): The Claim Jumpers remain put at number two following two wins last week at home. Columbia beat Folsom Lake 82-60 and followed that up with a 89-70 victory over Marin in Sonora. Columbia will look to pick up two more wins this week as the Claim Jumpers will travel to American River on Wednesday and follow that up with another road game against Alameda on Saturday in action this week.

3. West Valley (2-0): The Vikings remain at the three spot after picking up two wins last week to start off their 2021-2022 campaign. West Valley cruised past Solano 124-68 and followed that win up with a 113-87 win over Diablo Valley. The Vikings averaged 118.5 points per game in their two victories and played solid basketball. This week, the Vikings will host the Bob Burton Classic and face off against Marin on Friday night and follow that up the next night with another home contest against Cosumnes River on Saturday.

4. Chabot (3-0): The Gladiators move up one spot in the rankings after posting three victories last week. Chabot won the Gladiator Classic and picked up victories against Shasta, Porterville, and Feather River to win the championship. This week Chabot will be on the road and face off against Monterey (2-1) on Friday night in their lone game of the week.

5. San Jose (3-0): The Jaguars move up four spots in the rankings after posting three victories last week. San Jose beat Lassen (89-49), Merced (71-69) and San Joaquin Delta (83-71) at home last week in the San Jose Tip Off Tournament. The Jags look very good and will look to continue their winning streak as San Jose will be in action twice this upcoming week. San Jose will host Diablo Valley on Thursday and follow that up with a road game against Mendocino (0-1) on Saturday in their two games this week.

6. San Mateo (3-0): The Bulldogs move up six spots in the rankings as San Mateo won three games last week in Cali Juco basketball action. After a come from behind victory against San Joaquin Delta and picking up a 84-75 win, San Mateo cruised to two more victories crushing Lassen 95-65 and following that up with a 102-60 win over Merced to close out their weekend. This week, San Mateo will be in action one time as the Bulldogs will host Modesto (0-1) in their lone game of the week on Sunday.

7. Sequoias (1-1): The Giants drop three spots in the rankings after going 1-1 last week. Sequoias lost their home opener after blowing a 16 point halftime lead as the Giants lost to Palo Verde 68-59. The Giants followed that up with a 79-56 win over American River in game two and finished .500 over the weekend. This weekend, the Giants will travel to the coast and face off against Allan Hancock on Friday at the Hinson Tire Pros Winter Classic in San Luis Obispo. The following night the Giants will face tournament host Cuesta as Sequoias will look to pick up two wins.

8. Redwoods (3-0): The Corsaris make a seven spot jump in our norcal rankings after picking up three wins last week. After winning their home opener 85-73 over a solid Mendocino team, Redwoods posted two more victories at the Seahawk Classic hosted at Cabrillo College. The Corsairs blew past Gavilan 72-54 and followed that up with a last second win over tournament host Cabrillo 59-58. Redwoods has won three straight and will now host Napa Valley on Saturday for their lone game of the week.

9. Santa Rosa (1-2): The Bearcubs drop two spots in the rankings after suffering two losses in San Francisco last week. Santa Rosa lost to East Los Angeles 73-58 on opening night of the tournament, then suffered another lost to top ranked San Francisco 79-53 the next night. In the last day of the tournament, the Bearcubs picked up a 83-78 much needed win over Yuba. This week the Bearcubs will be off and they will return to action on November 18th as Santa Rosa will take on Merritt at the Shasta College Invitational.

10. Contra Costa (3-0): The Comets enter the rankings at number ten after posting three victories in Livermore last week to open up the season. Contra Costa opened up their season with a 72-64 win over Siskiyous and followed that up with a 95-91 win over Butte the next night. Contra Costa finished off their strong showing over the weekend with a 79-69 win over Sacramento as the Comets won three straight. This week, the Comets will be off and Contra Costa will return to the court on November 16th when they face Cabrillo (1-1) at home.

11. Los Medanos (3-0): The Mustangs come into the rankings after picking up three wins last week. Los Medanos cruised past Sacramento 86-61 in opening action in Livermore and followed that up with a 94-69 win over Siskiyous and ended their weekend with a 88-77 win over Butte. Los Medanos will be off this upcoming week and the Mustangs return to actiono on November 19th against 8th ranked College of the Redwoods (3-0).

12. Yuba (0-3): The 49ers had a tough weekend and drop six spots in the rankings after losing three straight games to quality ranked opponents. Yuba lost to top ranked San Francisco 102-69, followed that up with another loss against a tough East Los Angeles team 74-50 and finished the weekend with a close loss against Santa Rosa 83-78. Yuba will look to get back on track as the 49ers will be off this week and return to action on November 16th on the road against San Joaquin Delta.

13. Merritt (0-0): The Thunderbirds stay put at number 13 in the rankings after not having a game last week. Merritt will be in action twice this week as the Thunderbirds will open their season on the road against Skyline (2-0) and follow that up with another road game in Livermore against 14th ranked Las Positas (2-1) in their two games for the week.

14. Las Positas (2-1): The Hawks remain put at number 14 after going 2-1 over the first week of action. Las Positas lost their season opener to Butte 103-100 but followed that up with big victories over Sacramento (98-70) and Siskiyous (89-56) for their two wins at home. Las Positas will be in action twice this week as the Hawks will host Modesto on Wednesday and follow that up with a home game against 13th ranked Merritt in a battle between ranked teams within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings.

15. Porterville (3-1): The Pirates enter the rankings after starting the season off with three victories last week. Porterville picked up a season opening victory over a solid Allan Hancock team 78-76 and finished third place at the Gladiator Classic Tournament. The Pirates cruised past Ohlone 87-67, then suffered their first loss against a very good Chabot team. Following the loss, Porterville got back on track with a 67-47 win over Canada. This week, the Pirates are off and will return to action on November 19th against Bakersfield as Porterville will host the Milt Stowe Classic. The next night the Pirates will face Moorpark in the two games in that week.
