Week 5 Regular Season Southern California Signal The Light Basketball Rankings

1. Fullerton (8-0): The Hornets remain flying at the top spot for the 5th consecutive week after picking up two more wins last week. Fullerton crushed Mt. San Jacinto 73-55 and followed that up with a 84-72 win against Desert. Fullerton has won eight straight games to start the season and have a 4-0 record against teams with a winning record and are 3-0 against teams ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Hornets will host an eight team tournament and will open up against 11th ranked Los Angeles Southwest in first round action on Thursday.

2. Ventura (9-0): The Pirates remain at number two in the rankings after winning the Antelope Valley Tournament. Ventura cruised past Glendale, edged MiraCosta and picked up a very good win against a much improved Cerro Coso team in the championship game. The Pirates have a 5-0 record against teams that have posted a winning record and have a 3-0 record against teams ranked within our STLB rankings. This week, the Pirates will take on Long Beach in 1st round action at the Santa Barbara Tournament on Thursday.

3. San Diego (7-2): The Knights move up one spot in the rankings after going 3-0 last week and winning the Grossmont Tournament. San Diego picked up victories over Palo Verde, Palomar and a huge win over West Valley to bring home some championship hardware. The Knights have posted a 2-2 record against teams that have a winning record and have a 1-2 record against teams that are ranked within our STLB week 5 rankings. This week, the Knights will be at the Fullerton Tournament and face off against 9th ranked Citrus in 1st round action beginning on Thursday.

4. West Los Angeles (8-1): The Wildcats move up one spot in this weeks rankings after picking up three wins last week. West Los Angeles picked up wins against Barstow, Compton and edged San Bernardino for a second time this season in the championship game at the Wild West Shootout. The Wildcats have posted a 2-1 record against teams that have a winning record and 2-1 against teams ranked within our Week 5 STLB rankings. This week, the Wildcats will take on 5th ranked Sequoias in 1st round action at the Fullerton Tournament.

5. San Bernardino (7-3): The Wolverines drop two spots in the rankings following a 2-1 weekend. San Bernardino crushed Long Beach 100-58 and followed that up with an impressive 112-81 win over Los Angeles Southwest before losing to West Los Angeles in the championship game. It was the Wolverines second time losing to West Los Angeles but San Bernardino has posted a 6-3 record against teams that have a winning record and a 4-3 record against teams within our week 5 STLB rankings. San Bernardino continues their tough schedule this week as the Wolverines will host a very dangerous Santa Monica team on Wednesday for their lone game of the week.

6. Santiago Canyon (8-1): The Hawks stay put at number six in the rankings after posting three wins last week. Santiago Canyon picked up a win over Copper Mountain, Santa Monica and Citrus all last week and have won five straight games since losing to MiraCosta. Santiago Canyon has a 3-1 record against teams that have a winning record and have a 1-0 record against teams that are ranked this season. This week, the Hawks will have two games this week as Santiago Canyon will face 8th ranked Los Angeles Harbor on the road on Wednesday and follow that up with a home game against Palomar on Friday night.

7. East Los Angeles (6-2): The Huskies remain put in the rankings at number seven after having the week off. East Los Angeles has won three straight games and have posted a 2-2 record against teams that have a winning record this season. The Huskies are 1-2 against teams that are ranked within our STLB rankings and will face some solid teams this upcoming week at the Riverside Tournament. East Los Angeles will face Saddleback on Wednesday, 13th ranked Mt. San Jacinto on Thursday and end their three game run against tournament host Riverside on Saturday.

8. Los Angeles Harbor (7-0): The Seahawks move up four spots in the rankings following all the mix up above them. Los Angeles Harbor picked up a 89-87 win over Santa Ana and have started the season off winning seven straight games. The Seahawks have a 3-0 record against teams that have a winning record and are 1-0 against teams ranked within our week 5 STLB rankings. This week, Harbor will be in action twice as the Seahawks will host 6th ranked Santiago Canyon on Wednesday and follow that up with a road game against Antelope Valley on Saturday.

9. Citrus (6-2): The Owls drop one spot in the rankings following a 1-1 week. Citrus picked up a win over Victor Valley but suffered a home loss against Santiago Canyon. The Owls have posted a 3-2 record against teams that have winning records and are 0-2 against teams ranked within our STLB rankings. This week, the Owls will be at the Fullerton Tournament and face off against 3rd ranked San Diego in 1st round action on Thursday.

10. Canyons (6-2): The Cougars drop one spot in the rankings after going 1-1 last week but with teams losing right below them not much means to drop. Canyons lost on the road against Long Beach but picked up a home win against San Diego Mesa. Canyons has a 2-1 record against teams that have a winning record and the Cougars are 0-1 against teams that are ranked within our STLB week 5 rankings. This week, the Cougars will be in action twice as Canyons will face Cypress on Thursday at home and follow that up with another home game against Rio Hondo on Saturday to end their week.

11. Los Angeles Southwest (8-2): The Cougars remain in the same spot of the rankings following a 2-1 week at the Wild West Shootout. Los Angeles Southwest beat Los Angeles Valley and Compton but had a setback against a very good San Bernardino team. This season the Cougars are 1-2 against teams that have a winning record and are 1-1 against teams that are ranked within our STLB rankings. This week, the Cougars will be at the Fullerton Tournament and face top ranked Fullerton in 1st round action on Thursday.

12. Irvine Valley (6-3): The Lasers return to the rankings after winning the Monterey Bay Classic last week. Irvine Valley went 3-0 as the Lasers beat Feather River, Foothill and Monterey as the Lasers have now won five games in a row after losing three straight. Irvine Valley have been very solid at the defensive end all season long as the Lasers have held opponents to states best 51.6 points per game and are 1-3 against teams that have a winning record. Irvine Valley is 1-2 against teams ranked in our STLB week five rankings. This week, the Lasers will face Mt. San Antonio at home on Friday in their lone game of the week.

13. Mt. San Jacinto (4-3): The Eagles remain at number 13 in the rankings despite suffering a loss last week. Mt. San Jacinto lost 73-55 against top ranked Fullerton ending their four game winning streak. Mt. San Jacinto is 0-3 against teams that have a winning record and are 0-2 against teams ranked within our week 5 STLB rankings. This week, the Eagles are at the Riverside Tournament and will take on Cerritos on Wednesday, 7th ranked East Los Angeles on Thursday and face Saddleback on Saturday to finish off their 3 game week.

14. San Diego Miramar (4-3): The Jets drop four spots in the rankings after suffering a home loss last week. Miramar lost at home to Golden West as they suffered their second straight loss. San Diego Miramar is 3-1 against teams that have a winning record and are 1-1 against teams ranked within our STLB week five rankings. This week the Jets will face Orange Coast on Tuesday and follow that up with another road game against Orange Coast on Friday for their two games this week.

15. Cerro Coso (7-2): The Coyotes stay put in the rankings after going 2-1 last week at the Antelope Valley Tournament. Cerro Coso blew out Los Angeles Pierce and Antelope Valley but suffered a loss against Ventura in the championship game. The Coyotes have won four of their last five, and have a 4-2 record against teams that have a winning record. Cerro Coso is 0-2 against teams ranked within our week 5 STLB rankings as their losses have come against Fullerton and Ventura. This week, the Coyotes will face Rio Hondo on the road on Wednesday and follow that up with a home game on Saturday against Reedley.

Signaling a Light: Saddleback (5-3), Cypress (6-4), Mt. San Antonio (6-3), Cerritos (5-3), Bakersfield (5-3)
