Bay Valley Conference action will start this week as the nine team conference will look to take home the conference title for the upcoming 2021-2022 season. Only three teams have a winning record and four teams have struggled and only have 2 or less wins in non conference action play in the current season. In the 2019-2020 season, Yuba picked up the conference championship as the 49ers went 14-2 in conference action.

This season, Los Medanos started the season winning 10 straight games to start the season. The Mustangs have been ranked as high as fourth in our Signal The Light Basketball rankings and suffered their first loss over the weekend at the Kris Kringle Tournament against Santa Rosa. Los Medanos has only faced one team within our rankings and appear to be one of the favorites coming into conference action. The Mustangs will open up conference action against another team that is in the running for the Bay Valley Conference championship Contra Costa on Tuesday at home.

Contra Costa is a team that could make a deep post season run as the Comets have shown at times to be a top team in Northern California. The Comets have started the season winning eight of ten games and have only faced one team within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings all season. Contra Costa has the talent and in our eyes could be the team to come out with the conference title this season.

Yuba is 6-6 at the moment, but do not let their record fool you into what this team is capable of doing. Coach Cornelius picked up his 450th victory over the weekend, but out of all the teams within the Bay Valley Conference, the 49ers have had the toughest competition hands down. Yuba has lost twice to Santa Rosa, top ranked San Francisco twice, East Los Angeles and a very tough San Jose team. Yuba has a victory against Redwoods, and the 49ers have posted 4 wins where they have won by 20 or more points.

Mednocino has struggled to a 5-7 record but the Eagles are a team that will be in every game within conference. The Eagles have losses against Redwoods twice, San Jose, Yuba, Los Medanos, Butte and a bad loss against Lassen. Mendocino has talent and is capable of beating anyone they play in the conference but they will have to show it on a consistent basis if they are going to make a post season run and compete in the upper half of the conference.

Merritt has struggled in non conference action as we projected the Thunderbirds to be more consistent than they have shown. The Thunderbirds are 4-7 and will need to have a big conference turn around if they are going to make the post season.

Marin, Solano, Alameda, and Napa Valley have all struggled in non conference and will look to stay competitive in conference action.
