Week 5 Regular Season Northern California Signal The Light Basketball Rankings

  1. San Francisco (6-1): The Rams take back over the top spot in the rankings following a West Valley loss. Last week, San Francisco picked up two wins as the Rams have started the season off winning six of their first seven games. Last week, the Rams picked up a 92-76 win over San Joaquin Delta and followed that up with a home win against a very good Sequoias team 80-66. The Rams are 3-1 against teams that have a winning record and have put together a 4-1 record against teams that are ranked and will look to pick up two more victories against ranked opponents this week. San Francisco will face 8th ranked Yuba on the road on Wednesday and follow that up with another road game on Friday against 15th ranked Santa Rosa for their two games this week.

2. Columbia (10-0): The Claim Jumpers move up one spot in the rankings and are one of two undefeated teams left in Northern California. Last week, Columbia picked up three wins and took home the Saltwater Classic championship as the Claim Jumpers beat De Anza 87-67, then followed that up with a 88-77 win over San Mateo and then collected the championship trophy with a 96-67 win over Butte. Columbia has ten wins under their belt and have posted a 4-0 record against teams that have a winning record and have went 1-0 against teams that are within our rankings this season. This week, the Claim Jumpers will be in action one time as they will travel on the road and face 6th ranked San Mateo on Saturday.

3. West Valley (9-1): The Vikings drop two spots in the rankings after posting a 2-1 record last week. West Valley went down south needed overtime to beat Cuesta 96-90, then cruised to a 91-47 win over Grossmont in the semi finals of the Grossmont Invitational but had their first setback of the season falling to 4th ranked San Diego by one point in the championship game. The Vikings have started the season winning 9 of 10, have a 3-1 against teams with a winning record and are 2-1 against teams ranked inside of our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Vikings will be in action twice as West Valley will take on 9th ranked Las Positas at home on Wednesday and follow that up with a road game against Alameda on Saturday.

4. Los Medanos (8-0): The Mustangs move into the top 5 for the first time this season as Los Medanos is one of two undefeated teams left in Northern California. Last week, the Mustangs picked up a 100-74 victory over Modesto in their lone win of the week. The Mustangs are 2-0 against teams that have a record .500 and above are 1-0 against teams ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Mustangs will face off against Skyline in their lone game of the week at home on Wednesday this week.

5. Sequoias (5-2): The Giants drop one spot in the rankings after going 1-1 last week. Sequoias cruised past Ohlone 113-65 but lost too top ranked San Francisco 80-66 on the road. The Giants are 2-2 against teams that have a winning record and are 1-1 against teams that are ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Giants will travel down south to the Fullerton Tournament and face 4th ranked West Los Angeles in first round action beginning on Friday.

6. San Mateo (9-2): The Bulldogs stay put in the rankings after going 3-1 last week and finishing 3rd place at the Saltwater Classic hosted by Cabrillo. San Mateo picked up wins against San Jose, Merritt and Folsom Lake but had a setback against Columbia. The Bulldogs have a 1-1 record against teams that have a winning record and have posted a 1-2 record against teams ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Bulldogs have one game and will face off against 2nd ranked Columbia at home on Saturday in their lone game of the week.

7. San Jose (8-2): The Jaguars drop two spots in the rankings after going 1-1 last week. San Jose suffered a 76-73 loss against San Mateo but followed that up with a 80-73 win over Skyline. San Jose has posted a 1-1 record against winning teams and are 0-1 against teams within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week the Jaguars will be in action twice as San Jose host Foothill on Wednesday and follow that up with a game against 8th ranked Yuba on the road on Saturday.

8. Yuba (4-3): The 49ers continue to roll after dropping their first three games of the season. Last week, Yuba picked up a 95-72 win over Shasta in their lone game of the week. The 49ers have an 0-2 record against teams that have a winning record and are 0-3 against teams that are ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the 49ers have a challenging week as Yuba faces top ranked San Francisco at home on Wednesday and then follow that up with another home game against 7th ranked San Jose on Saturday.

9. Las Positas (9-1): The Hawks move up one spot in the rankings after posting three wins last week in Sacramento. Las Positas picked up wins over Fresno, Reedley and Siskiyous last week to win their ninth game in a row. The Hawks have posted a 0-1 record against teams that have a winning record and have not faced a team within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Hawks will face 3rd ranked West Valley on the road on Wednesday and follow that up with a home game against Diablo Valley on Saturday.

10. Chabot (4-3): The Gladiators move up one spot in the rankings despite not having a game last week. Chabot has posted a 1-1 record against teams that have a winning record and are 1-1 against teams ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Gladiators return to action as Chabot will face Diablo Valley on Friday night at home in their lone game of the week.

11. Contra Costa (5-1): The Comets move up two spots in the rankings despite not having a game last week. Contra Costa has posted a 2-0 record against teams that have a winning record and have not a faced a team that is ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Comets will be in action twice as Contra Costa will face Butte tomorrow night at home and follow that up with another home game against Sacramento on Saturday.

12. Redwoods (6-2): The Corsairs drop four spots in the rankings after going 1-1 last week. Redwoods lost at home against West Hills-Coalinga but recovered and picked up a 72-70 win over Sierra. Redwoods is 1-1 against teams that have a winning record and have not faced a team that is ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Corsairs have two games as Redwoods will travel to the Central Valley and face Reedley on Wednesday and follow that up with a game at Merced on Friday evening to close out their week.

13. American River (6-3): The Beavers enter the rankings for the first time this season after picking up a win last week over Solano. American River has won five of their last six games and the Beavers have posted a 1-2 record against teams that have winning records. American River are 1-2 as well against teams ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week the Beavers are in action one time as American River will be on the road and face Feather River on Thursday.

14. Monterey (8-2): The Lobos move up one spot in the rankings despite going 2-1 last week. Monterey beat Santa Barbara and a solid Cypress team from Southern California but had a set back against a ranked Irvine Valley team in the championship game of the Monterey Bay Classic ending their six game winning streak. Monterey has a 2-1 record against teams that have a winning record and are 1-1 against teams that are ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Lobos will be in action twice as Monterey will face Modesto on the road on Friday and follow that up with a game against Lassen in Modesto the following night.

15. Cosumnes River (7-3): The Hawks enter the rankings for the first time this season after going 2-1 last week. Cosumnes River picked up wins against Siskiyous and Fresno but had a set back against Reedley in their last game. The Hawks have won four of their last five games and have posted a 0-2 record against winning teams and are 0-2 against teams ranked within our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. This week, the Hawks will play one time as Cosumnes River will host West Hills-Lemoore at home on Saturday night.
