STLB Southern California Coach of the Year

Mack Cleveland (LA Southwest): Cleveland is our Signal The Light Basketball Socal Coach of the year after leading the Cougars to the South Coast South Conference championship and a 19-10 record. Cleveland and the Cougars earned an eleven seed going into the post season. Los Angeles Southwest were on of the most high scoring offenses in the state and Cleveland and the Cougars were not at full strength for most of the season. The Cougars eventually lost in the 1st round of the playoffs but it was a solid season for Los Angeles Southwest as coach Cleveland is our Southern California Coach of the Year.

Southern California Signal The Light Player of the Year

G: Brandon Fredrick “5-10” Guard (LA Southwest): Fredrick was one of the most electric scorers in the state after having a big season for the Cougars. The guard was a walking bucket and was a big reason why the Cougars made a post season appearance and shared the Conference championship. The electric guard averaged 25.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists and scored in double figures in 28 out of 29 games in the 2021-2022 season. Fredrick scored over 20 points twenty one times, scored over 30 points seven times and scored 40 or more points three times including a season high of 46 points against Compton. The guard was 1st in the state in three pointers made, 1st in points scored and 4th in the state in points per game while shooting 51% from the floor and 44% from downtown.

G: Jonathan Ogugua “6-0” Guard (San Diego): Ogugua was a key factor for the Knights this past season and one of the best guards in the state. Ogugua averaged 17.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists last year for San Diego. The guard scored in double figures in 26 out of 28 games and scored a season high of 27 points against West Valley. Ogugua scored 20 or more points eight times and shot 44% from the floor and 34% from downtown. The player of the year in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference was 10th in the state in steals and ended the season shooting 77% from the charity stripe.

F: Josh Miller “6-6” (Cerro Coso): Miller helped lead Cerro Coso to one of their best finishes in school history after leading the Coyotes in scoring. Miller averaged 17.4 points, 6.4 rebounds last season for the Coyotes. The wing scored in double figures in 22 games and scored a season high of 37 points against Palo Verde in Inland Empire Conference action. Miller scored 20 or more points ten times and shot 42% from the floor and 37% from downtown in his sophomore season. The leading scorer of the Coyotes was 6th in the state in free throws as he shot 86% from the line. Miller was also named to the First Team in the Inland Empire Conference.

F: Mikah Blackwell “6-6” (Copper Mountain): Blackwell had a sensational season for the Fighting Cacti in his sophomore campaign. Blackwell averaged 18.5 points and 9.9 rebounds and helped lead Copper Mountain to 17 wins and a victory in the post season. Blackwell scored in double figures in 23 games and had a season high of 29 points in the 2021-2022 season. The forward scored 20 or more points twelve times and posted eleven double doubles for Copper Mountain. Blackwell was 3rd in the state in free throws made, 13th in blocks, shot 51% from the floor and was named to the Inland Empire conference in his sophomore season.

C: Chazz Hutchinson “6-9” (Fullerton): Hutchinson was a key player on the Hornets in the 2021-2022 season. The big man scored in double figures 19 times and averaged 11.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 65% from the floor. Hutchinson scored a season high of 31 points against Orange Coast in Orange Empire Conference action. The sophomore posted a season high of 15 rebounds against Santa Ana and recorded six double doubles last year. The big had five games where he shot 100% from the floor. Hutchinson was named Co-MVP of the Orange Empire Conference and was one of the best bigs in the state last season.

STLB Southern California 2nd Team

G: Roy Clarke “6-3” (West Los Angeles): Clarke was a standout for the Wildcats and helped lead the Wildcats to a Final Four appearance. Clarke averaged 12.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Western State South Conference. The sophomore guard scored in double figures 23 times and scored a season high of 26 points against Copper Mountain. Clarke put together five double doubles and 14.5 points and 11.0 rebounds at the Elite Eight before the Wildcats lost to West Valley. The guard shot 50% from the floor and 37% from the three point line in his sophomore season.

G: Atiba Taylor “6-3” (Saddleback): Taylor had a solid season for the Bobcats and helped lead them to a 17-12 record in his sophomore season. Taylor averaged 16.3 points and 4.9 rebounds for the Bobcats. Taylor scored in double figures in 28 games and scored a season high of 33 points against Santiago Canyon in conference action. Taylor scored 20 or more points nine times and was 9th in the state in free throws made with 128 on the season. Taylor shot 46% from the floor and 31% from downtown and was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Orange Empire Conference.

G: Anthony McIntyre “6-4” (Ventura): McIntyre was second on the Pirates in scoring and helped lead Ventura to a 25-3 record. McIntyre averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in his sophomore campaign. The wing scored in double figures 24 times and had a season high of 37 points against Antelope Valley while shooting 15 of 25 from the floor. The sophomore made a three pointer in 22 games and shot 53% from the floor and 39% from the three point line while being named to the 1st team all conference in the Western State North Conference.

G/F: Leonard Turner “6-5” (Citrus): Turner helped lead the Owls to an 2022 Elite Eight appearance and helping Citrus to 23 wins in his sophomore campaign. The forward averaged 14.4 points an 6.5 rebounds for the Owls. Turner scored in double figures in 22 games and scored 20 or more points eight times including a season high of 25 points against Mt. San Antonio. Turner shot 52% from the floor and was named to the Western State South All Conference team as a sophomore for the Owls.

C: Amari Stroud “6-9” (Allan Hancock): The Long Beach State commit had a standout sophomore season for the Bulldogs. Stroud averaged 16.6 points and 10.0 rebounds last season for the 17-10 Bulldogs. Stroud scored in double figures in 20 games and had a season high of 29 points against Oxnard in conference action. Stroud 20 or more points six times, recorded 10 double doubles and had a season high of 22 rebounds against Oxnard. Stroud shot 49% from the floor, was 15th in the state in rebounding per game and named to the Western State North All Conference team for the Bulldogs.

STLB Southern California Freshman of the Year

G: Dominique Daniels “5-9” (San Bernardino): Daniels was a standout guard this season for the Wolverines helping San Bernardino to a 25-6 record. Daniels averaged 21.3 points, 4.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds in his freshman season. Daniels scored in double figures in every game that he played in this past season and scored a season high of 40 points twice. The guard scored 20 or more points fifteen times and produced five 30 point games. Daniels shot 52% from the floor and shot 41%, was 8th in the state in steals, 4th in free throws made and 4th in field goals made for the Wolverines and was the Most Valuable Player in the Inland Empire Conference in his first season for San Bernardino.

G: Adrian McIntyre “6-3” (Ventura): McIntyre proved he was one of the most versatile and well rounded guards in the state after a standout freshman season for the Pirates. The freshman averaged 20.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists in the 2021-2022 season. McIntyre scored in double figures in every game he played in throughout the season and scored a season high of 38 points against Allan Hancock. The standout guard scored 20 or more points twelve times and posted 30 or more points six times for the Pirates. McIntyre was 7th in the state in points scored, 15th in free throws made, 10th in the state in steals and shot 55% from the floor, 29% from downtown and 82% from line and was named Most Outstanding Player in the Western State North Conference.

F: Tyrelle Hunt “6-5” (East Los Angeles): Hunt had a standout season for the Huskies in his first season. The freshman forward led the Huskies averaging 10.9 points and his 6.3 rebounds were a team high as well for East Los Angeles. Hunt scored in double figures 16 times and scored a season high of 21 points against San Bernardino. The freshman had a season high of 11 rebounds against Santa Monica. Hunt shot 54% from the floor and 78% from the line and was named First team all conference in the South Coast North Conference in the 2021-2022 season.

F: Isaiah Skinner “6-6” (Mt. San Jacinto): Skinner had a solid first season for the Eagles in his freshman campaign. The wing led Mt. San Jacinto in scoring as the freshman averaged 14.1 points and 4.8 rebounds. Skinner scored in double figures 21 times and posted 20 or more points seven times including a season high of 30 against Los Angeles Southwest. Skinner made a three pointer in 25 games and 4 or more three pointers seven times and made 75 three pointers on the season. The freshman who was also named to the Inland Empire Conference first team shot 35% from downtown and helped lead the Eagles to 18 wins in the 2021-2022 season.

F: Kameron Mayhan “6-8” (Long Beach): Mayhan had a solid season for the Vikings in the 2021-2022 season. The forward averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in his freshman campaign and scored in double figures in 20 of his 29 games. Mayhan scored a season high of 22 points against Compton and scored over 20 points three times in his first season for the Vikings. The freshman had a season high of 15 times three times and had seven double doubles. Mayhan shot 48% from the floor, was named to the 1st team in the South Coast South Conference and helped lead the Vikings to a 18-12 record.

STLB Socal 2nd team All Freshmen

G: Justin Williams “6-3” (West Los Angeles): The Tennessee State commit had a solid first season for the Wildcats. Williams averaged 11.1 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds in freshman season for West Los Angeles. The guard scored in double figures 18 times, and came on strong towards the end of the season. Williams scored over 20 points three times and scored a season high of 27 points against Bakersfield. The guard shot 51% from the floor and 57% from the three point line (44-77) which was 1st in the state. Williams was named 1st team all conference in the Western State South Conference and averaged 12.5 points at the Elite Eight and 18.5 points in the post season and proved why he was one of the elite guards in the state as a freshman.

G: Shaquil Bender “6-3” (Mt. San Antonio): Bender had a standout season for the Mounties and helped lead them to the 2nd round of the post season. The wing averaged 19.0 points and 3.7 rebounds last season for Mt. San Antonio. Bender scored in double figures in 24 games and scored over 20 points thirteen times. The Philadelphia native and Mt. San Antonio standout scored a season high of 30 points against Mt. San Jacinto in the first round of the playoffs. Bender shot 44% from the floor, and was 19th in the state in points scored and 22nd in points per game in his first season. Bender was also named to the 1st team All Conference team in the South Coast North Conference.

F: Andrew Henderson “6-4” (Canyons): Henderson played well this season for the Cougars in the 2021-2022 season. The freshman averaged 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds and helped lead Canyons to a 15-11 record. Henderson scored in double figures in 23 games and scored 20 or more points twelve times in his first season. The forward scored a season high of 31 points against Santa Monica and shot over 50% from the floor in 19 of his 25 games. Henderson shot 56% from the floor, 38% from the three point line, posted seven double doubles, and was named to the Western State South All Conference team.

F: Jacob Doffing “6-8” (San Diego Miramar): Doffing had a standout season for the Jets in his freshman campaign. The forward averaged 11.2 points and 7.7 rebounds and helped lead Miramar to an 19-11 record. Doffing scored in double figures in 17 games and scored a season high of 26 points against Orange Coast. The freshman scored 20 or more points four times and posted nine double doubles for the Jets. Doffing shot 57% from the floor, and was named 2nd team Pacific Coast All Conference after a standout freshman season.

C: Anthony Garza “6-8” (Ventura): Garza had a solid season for the Pirates as the big man established himself for one of the top teams in Southern California. The freshman averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds for the Pirates. Garza scored in double figures 15 times and scored a season high of 19 points against Antelope Valley. Garza had three double doubles and shot 57% from the floor in his freshman campaign. The big man was named to the Western State North All Conference team and had a standout season for the Pirates.
