Signal The Light Basketball week 5 Northern California Rankings (December 5-11)

1. West Valley (10-0): The Vikings take over the top spot in Northern California after going 2-0 last week. West Valley has started off the season winning ten straight games and the Vikings have not lost since last spring in the state championship game. Last week, the Vikings picked up wins against Contra Costa and Canada and are rolling to start the season. West Valley is 3-0 against teams that have a winning record and will be in action two times this upcoming week. The Vikings face 6th ranked Las Positas on the road on Wednesday and follow that up with a home game against 5th ranked San Francisco on Saturday night.

2. Columbia (10-1): The Claimjumpers move up two spots and take over the second spot in our week five rankings. Columbia has won eight straight games since losing to Las Positas on November 5th as the Claimjumpers won the Saltwater Classic at Aptos last week. Columbia picked up wins against Merritt, Folsom Lake and Cabrillo last week. Columbia has put together a 2-1 record against teams that have a winning record and the Claimjumpers will be in action one time this week as Columbia will host Shasta at home on Friday in their lone game of the week.

3. Ohlone (8-0): The Renegades continue to shoot up the rankings at a fast rate and move into the top five for the first time this season. Ohlone has started the season winning eight straight games and picked up wins against Merritt and Marin last week and continue to have success. The Renegades are 2-0 against teams that have put together a winning record and have played solid basketball to start the season. Ohlone will be back in action this week as the Renegades will be at the Modesto Tournament and open up against Mendocino in first round action on Thursday.

4. Yuba (6-1): The 49ers drop three spots in the rankings after going 3-1 last week. Yuba picked up a non conference win against Feather River and followed that up with wins against Palo Verde and Cuesta before suffering their first loss against San Diego last night at the Grossmont Invitational. Yuba is 0-1 against teams that have a winning record and the 49ers will be in action twice this upcoming week. The 49ers will face 11th ranked San Jose on Thursday and follow that up with a home game against Shasta on Saturday night.

5. San Francisco (6-2): The Rams drop three spots in the rankings following a 1-1 week. San Francisco picked up a win against Sequoias but lost at home to North Idaho in an overtime battle. San Francisco has won six of eight to start the season and have blown out competition throughout the season with their two losses coming against Fullerton and North Idaho. This season the Rams are 1-2 against teams that have posted a winning record. This week the Rams will be in action twice as San Francisco will face Santa Rosa on the road on Wednesday and end their week facing top ranked West Valley on Saturday in a rematch of the state championship game from a year ago.

6. Las Positas (8-2): The Hawks move up four spots in the rankings after putting together three wins last week at the James Clark Classic. Las Positas picked up wins against Reedley, Feather River and Sisikyous and have started the season off winning eight of their first ten games. Las Positas has put together a 3-1 record against teams that have a winning record and their two losses have come against Modesto and San Jose. This upcoming week, the Hawks will face top ranked West Valley at home on Wednesday and follow that up with another home game against Diablo Valley on Friday evening.

7. Redwoods (12-1): The Corsairs make a huge jump in the rankings moving up seven spots as Redwoods continues to win. Redwoods has the most wins in the state and picked up wins against Sierra and Mendocino last week. The Corsairs have started the season winning twelve of their first thirteen games and are 1-1 against teams that have a winning record this season. This upcoming week, the Corsairs will be in action twice as Redwoods will face 12th ranked Contra Costa on the road on Tuesday and follow that up with another road game against Southwest Oregon on Friday night.

8. Sequoias (6-3): The Giants drop two spots in the rankings following a 1-1 week. Sequoias has started the season winning six of their first nine and last week picked up a win against Delta but had a setback against San Francisco. Sequoias has lost three games this season against Fullerton, San Francisco and Los Angeles Southwest and the Giants are 0-3 against teams that have a winning record this season. This week, the Giants will be on the road and face Butte on Saturday in their lone game of the week.

9. Fresno (5-1): The Rams stay put in the rankings at number nine as Fresno was off again last week. Fresno has started the season off winning five of their first six and have not had a game since November 19th. Fresno has a 0-1 record against teams that have a winning record this season. This upcoming week, Fresno is back in action after a long break and will face Lassen in first round action at the Modesto Tournament on Thursday.

10. San Mateo (8-2): The Bulldogs drop five spots after a losing two times last week. San Mateo lost to Folsom Lake and Butte but did pick up a 77-56 win over Merritt. The Bulldogs have started the season off winning eight of their first ten games but it was a disappointing weekend for San Mateo after a hot start. The Bulldogs are 2-0 against teams that have a winning record this season and the Bulldogs are a solid team. This week, San Mateo will be in action one time as they will travel to Aptos and face 13th ranked Cabrillo on Saturday for their lone game of the week.

11. San Jose (7-3): The Jaguars move up four spots in the rankings following a win last week. San Jose has won three straight games after picking up a 92-89 win on the road against Los Medanos. San Jose has picked up two quality wins in their last two games and has put together a 2-2 record against teams that have a winning record this season. This week, San Jose will be in action twice as the Jaguars will face Diablo Valley on the road on Tuesday and follow that up with a home game against 4th ranked Yuba on Thursday evening.

12. Contra Costa (4-3): The Comets drop down five spots in the rankings following a loss last week. Contra Costa has struggled to a 4-3 record early on as the Comets were blown out by West Valley 80-55 in their last outing. Contra Costa has suffered losses against West Valley, Columbia and San Mateo which are all ranked within our rankings and the Comets are 2-3 against teams that have put together a winning record. Contra Costa has had a stiff schedule and it does not get any easier as the Comets will face 8th ranked Redwoods at home on Tuesday in their lone game of the week.

13. Cabrillo (6-3): The Seahawks re enter the rankings after putting together a 2-1 week at the Saltwater Classic. Cabrillo picked up wins against Butte and Merced before falling to Columbia in the championship game at home last week. The Seahawks are 0-1 against teams that have a winning record and will be in action twice this week as Cabrillo will face Merced on the road on Thursday and follow that up with a home game against 10th ranked San Mateo on Saturday.

14. Los Medanos (5-3): The Mustangs move down three spots in the rankings following a 1-1 week. Los Medanos suffered a loss at home against San Jose but picked up a victory over Modesto on the road as Los Medanos has won four of their last five games. The Mustangs have a 3-3 record against teams that have a winning record and have losses against San Jose, Contra Costa and Las Positas this season. This week, the Mustangs will be in action one time as Los Medanos will be on the road against Skyline on Wednesday for their lone game of the week.

15. West Hills Lemoore (6-3): The Golden Eagles move down three spots in the rankings as we have a tie for number 15 this week. Lemoore picked up a win over Bakersfield and suffered a 78-76 loss against Hancock last week. West Hills Lemoore has put together a 1-1 record against teams with a winning record and will look to get back on track this week as the Golden Eagles will face Sacramento in 1st round action at the Modesto Tournament on Thursday.
