San Francisco takes over the top spot coming into the new year with Columbia suffering a loss from our last rankings released. Sequoias, Columbia, West Valley and Yuba round off our top 5 in Northern California. San Jose which continues in an upward trend has won nine straight and Fresno, Redwoods, Las Positas and Redwoods round off our top 10. Ohlone, Contra Costa, Gavilan, Los Medanos and Diablo Valley are our last five teams in our week 8 Norcal rankings.

1. San Francisco (12-2): The Rams take over the top spot coming into the new year in our week 8 rankings. San Francisco is on a six game winning streak and knocked off Siskiyous 96-64 in their last outing on December 29th. The Rams have put together a 5-2 record against teams that have a winning record with their best victory coming against West Valley on the road on December 10th. This upcoming week, the Rams will start Coast North Conference action and face 9th ranked Las Positas on the road on Wednesday and follow that up with a home game against Chabot on Friday.

2. Sequoias (11-3): The Giants move up two spots in our new rankings after putting together two wins last week. Sequoias knocked off Gavilan and Cabrillo in their last two outings and have now won six in a row since losing to San Francisco on December 2nd. The Giants have put together a 6-3 record against teams that have a winning record with their best victory coming against Cerritos. This week, Sequoias starts Central Valley Conference action with a home game against 3rd ranked Columbia at home and then face Merced at home on Saturday for thier two games of the week.

3. Columbia (12-2): The Claim Jumpers drop two spots in our rankings following a loss last week ending their 10 game winning streak. Columbia lost to an improving Contra Costa team 59-58 on the road in their last outing. This season Columbia is 4-2 against teams that have posted a winning record with their best win coming against Contra Costa on November 4th. This week, the Claim Jumpers travel to Visalia on Wednesday and face 2nd ranked Sequoias and follow that up with a home game against West Hills Coalinga in Central Valley Conference action.

4. West Valley (14-2): The Vikings drop one spot in our rankings following a 1-1 last two weeks. West Valley picked up a win against Skyline but dropped a home game against East Los Angeles on December 20th. This season the Vikings have put together a 5-2 record against teams that have posted a winning record and a victory against Las Positas has been their best victory of the season. This week, the Vikings start Coast South Conference play up and will face 6th ranked San Jose on the road on Wednesday and follow that up with a home game against Hartnell on Friday.

5. Yuba (12-2): The 49ers move up one spot in the rankings and into our top five to start 2023. Yuba has won six in a row and have not played since December 21st when they knocked off Marin on the road 77-71. This season, Yuba has put together a 4-2 record against teams that have a winning record with their best victory coming against Redwoods on December 16th. Yuba is 2-0 in Bay Valley Conference action and will face Mendocino at home on Tuesday and follow that up with a road game against Merritt on Thursday.

6. San Jose (13-3): The Jaguars move up two spots after another win against a ranked opponent. San Jose has now won nine straight after beating Fresno on the road 75-67 as the Jags continue to roll. The Jaguars have a 9-2 record against teams that have a winning record including eight straight over teams that have had a winning record. This week, San Jose will put that streak on the line as the Jaguars open up Coast South Conference action against 3rd ranked West Valley at home on Wednesday for their lone game of the week.

7. Fresno (10-2): The Rams drop two spots in the rankings following a loss last week coming into 2023. Fresno had their eight game winning streak snapped as the Rams lost at home to a very good San Jose team 75-67. The Rams have put together a 1-2 record against teams that have posted a winning record with that victory coming against Cuesta. This week, Fresno will be in action against Merced at home on Wednesday and follow that up with a road game against Porterville on Saturday as Central Valley Conference action begins this week.

8. Redwoods (16-2): The Corsairs drop a spot in the rankings as Redwoods has not played since December 17th. Redwoods won their last outing against Mednocino 72-55 and have nine of their last ten games. This season the Corsairs are 2-2 against teams that have posted a winning record with their best win coming against Contra Costa. This week, the Corsairs will open up Golden Valley Conference action as Redwoods will host Shasta on Saturday for their conference opener.

9. Las Positas (10-4): The Hawks stay put at number nine coming into the new year in our week eight rankings. Las Positas picked up a 94-83 win over Marin on December 30th to win their second straight as the Hawks are 2-2 in their last four games. This season, Las Positas has a 3-3 record against teams that have put together a winning record with their best win coming against Columbia on November 5th. This week, the Hawks will host top ranked San Francisco on Wednesday and follow that up with a road game against Canada on Friday.

10. San Mateo (10-4): The Bulldogs move up two spots in our rankings after picking up a win last week. San Mateo knocked off Monterey 105-88 last week after struggling their last two games before that at the Sequoias Tournament. This season, the Bulldogs have put together a 3-1 record against teams that have a winning record with their best victory coming against San Jose on November 12th. This week, San Mateo will open up conference action with a home game against Skyline on Wednesday and then take on 11th ranked Ohlone in Fremont on Friday in Coast North Conference action.

11. Ohlone (11-3): The Renegades move up two spots in our rankings following a win in their last outing. Ohlone picked up a 80-75 win over Alameda but the Renegades have struggled of late going 3-2 in their last five outings. This season, the Renegades are 1-1 against teams that have put together a winning record with their best win coming against Diablo Valley. This week, Ohlone will begin Coast North Conference action as the Renegades will host Canada on Wednesday and follow that up with a road game against 10th ranked San Mateo on Friday night.

12. Contra Costa (9-5): The Comets enter our rankings and splash in at number 12 this week. Contra Costa has put together three straight victories and two of them came against ranked opponents including a 59-58 win over Columbia in their last outing. Contra Costa is 5-5 against teams that have a winning record and their best victory came against Columbia last week. This week, the Comets will be in action three times as Contra Costa will face Alameda on the road on Tuesday, then face Marin at home on Thursday and end their week at home against Mendocino on Saturday in Bay Valley Conference action.

13. Gavilan (11-5): The Rams drop three spots in our rankings following a 1-1 week. Gavilan lost to Sequoias but picked up a win against Shasta and the Rams have lost two of their last three games including a loss to Columbia on the road. This season the Rams have put together a 4-4 record against winning teams with their best victory coming against Ohlone this season. This upcoming week, the Rams will open up Coast South Conference action against Hartnell on the road on Wednesday and follow that up with a home game against De Anza on Friday for their two games this week.

14. Los Medanos (8-5): The Mustangs drop three spots in the rankings following their loss last week. Los Medanos suffered a big home loss against Contra Costa and the Mustangs have now lost two games in a row in Bay Valley Conference action after losing to Yuba as well. This season the Mustangs have a 3-5 record against teams that have a winning record with their best victory coming against Redwoods this season. This week, Los Medanos will be in action three times as the Mustangs will face Napa Valley on the road on Tuesday, follow that up with a home game against Alameda and finish their week taking on Marin on the road on Saturday.

15. Diablo Valley (9-5): The Vikings enter the rankings following two wins since our last written rankings. Diablo Valley picked up wins against Sacramento and Folsom Lake on the road and have opened up Big 8 Conference action with a 2-0 record. This season the Vikings have put together a 2-3 record against teams that have a winning record with their best victory coming against Las Positas. This week, Diablo Valley will be in action twice with the Vikings facing Modesto at home on Tuesday and follow that up with another home game against American River on Friday night in Big 8 Conference play.
