Javohn Garcia “6-3” (Sequoias): The sophomore transfer from the University of Massachussets had a standout season for the Giants. Garcia helped lead the Giants to a 27-4 record an appearance at the Elite Eight this past season. The Player of the Year in the Central Valley Conference averaged 20.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Garcia shot 51% from the floor and made 46% of his shots from downtown while shooting 85% from the free throw line. Garcia scored 20 or more points 13 times and went off for 40 points against Los Angeles Southwest shooting 14-22 from the floor. Garcia was a big reason why the Giants had a lot of success and was one of the most efficient guards in the state. Garcia will play next season at Mcnese State University.

Signal The Light Basketball Norcal Coach of the Year

Jordan Lee (Ohlone): Coming into the new season, Ohlone College was not on the radar of having a successful season as the Renegades were coming off a 2-25 season in the 2021-2022 season. Out of nowhere enters Jordan Lee and the Renegades had an improved 2022-2023 season. Ohlone won their first eight games of the season and continued to play solid basketball all season long. In conference action, the Renegades posted a 7-7 record in one of the best conferences in the state and finished tied for 3rd place. Ohlone finished the season with an 18-11 record and made the post season, despite the first round loss for the Renegades, Lee and company made one of the best improvements in the state and it appears the culture of the Ohlone basketball program is changing for the better after a successful 2022-2023 season.

1st Team Northern California STLB Team

G: Jahvon Garcia: See Above

G: EJ Neal “6-5” (San Francisco): Neal is the second Ram on our first team after playing a big part of their 29 win season. The wings numbers arent what he does on the floor as the “6-5” wings intangibles are added bonuses when it comes to winning basketball. Neal averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists this past season while shooting 54% from the floor and 41% from the three point line. Neal scored a season high of 25 points against Fullerton in November and averaged 16 points per game in the Final Four in Lemoore. The sophomore scored in double figures 20 times and was 9th in the state in assists to turnover ratio for the Rams. The sophomore is being recruited by numerous division one programs and had two great seasons in the bay area.

G: Gavin Wilburn “6-5” (San Jose): One of the most versatile wings in the state helped lead San Jose to a Coast South Conference championship and an appearance at the Elite Eight this past season. Wilburn averaged 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists last season for the Jags. Wilburn played within the team system but showed his versatility all season long. Wilburn scored in double figures 20 times during his sophomore campaign and scored a season high of 23 points against Gavilan and De Anza and was named Most Valuable Player in the Coast South Conference.

F: Tejon Sawyer “6-7” (San Francisco): Sawyer was a match up problem for defenses all season long as the forward was a first team all conference player in the Coast North Conference. Sawyer was a force inside and was able to shoot the three ball at a consistent rate all season long. Sawyer averaged 15.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game for the state runner ups that finished with a 29-4 record. Sawyer shot 53% from the floor and shot 43% from downtown while making 54 of them and shot 80% from the foul line. Sawyer scored in double figures 28 times and had a season high of 28 points against Fullerton on November 17th.

C: Jon Nchekwube “6-7” (Redwoods): Nchekwube had a standout season for the Redwoods in the 2022-2023 season. The sophomore big man was the state leader in rebounds and was a key component for the Corsairs all season long. Nchekwube averaged 16.5 points and 17.5 rebounds and was 1st team all conference in the Golden Valley Conference. The forward shot 57% from the floor, was 2nd in the state in offensive rebounds, 16th in blocks and tops in the state in total rebounds and defensive rebounds. Nchekwube posted 27 double doubles and had a season high of 27 rebounds against Shasta and Solano as he did it twice this past season. In the post season the sophomore averaged 15.5 points and 20.5 rebounds in two games including a 11 point, 25 rebound performance against Sequoias.

2nd Team Northern California STLB team

G: Kendrick Currey “6-3” (San Joaquin Delta): Curry had a standout season in his sophomore campaign after having a solid 2022-2023. The wing was named to the Big 8 all conference team and was one of the best 2nd half of the season in the state. Curry averaged 21.4 points per contest but also got it done rebounding as the wing averaged 9.1 rebounds per game. Curry helped keep the Mustangs in the playoff race as the sophomore scored 20 or more points sixteen times and had a streak of eight straight games where he scored 20 points or more mid season. The Big 8 standout scored a season high of 36 points against Folsom Lake and he also scored over 30 points five times as the wing shot 41% from the floor and also had a season high of 17 rebounds against Napa Valley during his sophomore season.

G: Isaiah Victor “6-3” (Las Positas): Victor had a standout season for the Hawks in his sophomore season. The wing shined brights for Las Positas all season long after averaging 17.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in his sophomore season. Victor shot 45% from the floor and 38% from downtown while making 89 triples for the Hawks. The all conference selection scored in double figures 28 times and scored a season high of 31 points against Los Medanos in November. Victor scored 20 or more points eleven times and made a three pointer in 28 of his 31 games as he was second on the team in scoring. The sophomore was 6th in the state in three pointers made and was a standout player in Northern California throughout the 2022-2023 season.

F: David Hector “6-5” (Chabot): Hector helped the Gladiators to a Coast North Conference championship after putting together a standout sophomore season. The all conference selection averaged 14.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the Gladiators while shooting 51% from the floor. Hector was 11th in the state in rebounding and the sophomore had 17 double doubles and had a season high of 16 rebounds against San Jose. The forward also scored a season high of 26 points against Las Positas and was a standout defender for a Gladiator team that were co champions of the Coast North Conference this past season.

F: Jailen Daniel-Dalton “6-6” (Gavilan): The forward played well throughout the 2022-2023 season. Dalton was a Coast South all conference selection after averaging 16.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest in his sophomore campaign. The forward shot 50% from the floor and 39% from downtown and scored in double figures in 22 games. Dalton scored a season high of 34 points against West Valley and scored over 20 points six times or more. The “6-6” wing recorded a season high 16 rebounds against San Joaquin Delta and was 2nd on the Rams in rebounding. The sophomore will continue his career at San Francisco State University next week after committing to the Gators last week.

C: Terri Miller “6-8” (Sequoias): Miller had a standout season for the Giants as the big man was one of the most skilled bigs in the state. The all conference forward did a lot for Sequoias in the sophomore campaign as Miller averaged 13.9 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists from his low post position. The sophomore shot 56% from the floor, had a triple double and flirted with a couple more during the 2022-2023 season. Miller scored a season high of 29 points against Porterville, had a season high of 15 rebounds against San Mateo and recorded a season high of 10 assists against Merced in conference action. Miller helped guide the Giants to a 27-4 record and make an appearance at the Elite Eight for the second straight season. Miller has committed to Louisiana Tech for the upcoming season.

Signal The Light Basketball Northern California Freshman of the Year

Elijah Mahi “6-6” (West Valley): Mahi had a standout first season in Saratoga for the Vikings. The “6-6” forward averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds which earned him the Signal The Light Basketball Norcal Freshman of the Year. Mahi shot 51% from the floor 39% from three point range and scored in double figures in 28 out of 31 games in his freshman campaign. The freshman had seven double doubles and scored a season high of 35 points against Porterville in the 2022-2023 season. The versatility of Mahi was on full display this past season which helped the Vikings reach the Elite Eight and finish with a 26-5 record last season.

STLB Northern California All Freshman 1st Team

G: CJ Hardy “6-2” (San Francisco): One of the most exciting players in the state, the freshman came up big in his first season for the Rams. Hardy had highlight dunks throughout the season and averaged 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in his freshman campaign. Hardy shot 52% from the floor and 40% from downtown and shot 80% from the line for the Rams. Hardy scored in double figures 19 times and posted a season high of 23 points against Skyline in a game that he shot 8/9 from the floor. The guard was named all conference in the Coast North Conference and should be a key player next season for the Rams after playing a key part in the state championship runner up team.

G: Zach Broadous “6-4” (Chabot): One of the most talented freshmen guards in the state, Broadus had a sensational freshman season for the Gladiators. Broadous was 2nd in scoring for the Gladiators after averaging 13.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in the 2022-2023 season. Broadous was in double figures in 22 games and scored a season high of 25 points against San Francisco in a key win helping the Gladiators to a share of the Coast North Conference championship. The guard shot 45% from the floor and 38% from the three point line while shooting 82% from the free throw line in his first season in Hayward.

G: Trey Neff “6-3” (Redwoods): Neff came on the scene very unknown to a lot of people throughout the California junior college basketball world, but by the time the season was over, the shooting guard showed why he was a standout player in the state. Neff averaged 20.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.7 rebounds for the Corsairs and was named Player of the Year in the Golden Valley Conference. The guard helped lead Redwoods to 26 wins and shot 47% from the floor, 45% from downtown while making 97 in his freshman campaign. Neff scored in double figures in 29 of 30 games, made more than one three pointer in 27 games including a season high of seven against Sequoias in the sweet sixteen. The guard scored a season high of 37 points against Shasta and scored 20 or more points sixteen times in the 2022-2023 season.

F: Elijah Mahi “6-6” (West Valley): SEE ABOVE

F: Devon Malcolm “6-4” (Yuba): The Freshman was a key piece for the 49ers in his first season in Northern California. Malcolm helped lead the 49ers to a 26-3 record after averaging 14.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in his first season. Malcolm scored in double figures in 25 out of 29 games and scored a season high of 26 points against Butte. The Freshman scored 20 or more points eight times and had seven double doubles for the 49ers. Malcolm shot 55% from the floor and 34% from downtown and will be a force for the upcoming season after having a very solid freshman campaign.

STLB Northern California All Freshman 2nd Team

G: Jaylan Walton “6-1” (West Hills Lemoore): Walton had a solid first year for the Golden Eagles as the point guard for the playoff team from the Central Valley. The freshman was named all conference after averaging 18.3 points and 5.3 assists in his freshman campaign. Walton shot 45% from the floor and 37% from downtown while making 72 for West Hills Lemoore. Walton scored in double figures 21 times and had a season high of 30 points against West Los Angeles and Porterville, and scored over 20 or points eleven times. Walton had a sensational freshman season and should be a player to watch for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.

G: Jermiah Dargan “6-3” (West Valley): Dargan was a key piece for the Vikings this past season for West Valley. The freshman from Concord was an all Coast South Conference selection for the Vikings after averaging 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists in his first season in Saratoga. Dargan shot 46% from the floor and 42% from downtown and helped lead the Vikings to an elite appearance. The guard scored in double figures 27 times and had a season high of 23 points against Merced and dropped 20 or more points four times throughout the 2022-2023 season. Dargan also made three pointers in 27 games and shot 88% from the charity stripe which was 9th in the state.

G: Obadiah Curtis “6-5” (Reedley): Curtis was a bright spot for the Tigers this past season as the freshman filled up a stat sheet all season long for the central valley conference school. Curtis averaged 19.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest in his first season for the Tigers. The wing scored in double figures 25 times this past season and scored a season high of 32 against Merced in conference play. Curtis scored 20 or more points twelve times and posted seven double doubles this past season and recorded a season high 14 rebounds against West Hills Lemoore. Curtis shot 47% from the floor and was 15th in the state in scoring this past season. The freshman was a Central Valley Conference 1st team selection and should be a player to watch for the 2023-2024 season when it comes to four year college ready players.

W: Ramon Bailey “6-5” (Los Medanos): Bailey was a standout for the Mustangs in his first season as the freshman all conference standout averaged 14.8 points and 6.0 rebounds. Bailey shot 44% from the floor and 44% from downtown and the standout made 82 three pointers in one of the most efficient offenses in the state. Bailey scored in double figures in 24 games and scored a season high of 27 points two times last season (against Yuba and Merritt). Bailey shot 87% from the free throw line and the freshman was 18th in the state in three point field goal percentage. Bailey is another player that should have a big season after playing well in his first season in Pittsburg.

F: Fabian Reichstadt “6-8” (Gavilan): Reichstadt helped lead Gavilan with a solid freshman season in Gilroy. The forward averaged 10.3 points and 9.5 rebounds for the Rams in the 2022-2023 season. Reichstadt scored in double figures 13 times and scored a season high of 28 points against Merced. The forward shot 57% from the floor and had 19 rebounds against Ohlone for a season high in that category. Reichstadt posted eight double doubles, was 9th in the state in blocks, and in the top 15 in defensive rebounding and total rebounds in the entire state. The first year standout was 29th in the state in field goal percentage and played a big role for the Rams this past season.
