Santa Barbara City College Basketball Classic gets started today

Santa Barbara, CA – Eight teams from Southern California will participate at the Santa Barbara City College Classic beginning today. 2nd ranked Ventura College (9-0) headlines the field as the Pirates will look to pick up their tenth straight win to start the season at 1pm today. Ventura will take on Long Beach (5-5) in first round action. As for Long Beach, the Vikings have been playing better basketball of late after starting the season losing four of their first five games, Long Beach has turned it around and won four of their last five games including wins over Riverside and Canyons.

In the second game of the day, Pasadena (0-9) will look to pick up their first win of the season as the Lancers will face off against winless Los Angeles Valley (0-8). Both teams have struggled this season against competition and someone will pick up their first win of the season and advance to the semi finals on Friday.

In the 5pm game, Oxnard (2-4) will look to advance to the semi finals and end their two game losing skid as the Condors will take on Bakersfield (5-3) in first round action. It will be the second time the two teams squared off against eachother as Bakersfield went on the road and beat Oxnard 75-62. The winner of this matchup will face off against the Long Beach/Ventura winner at 5pm while the loser of the game will head to the consolation bracket and play at 1pm.

In the finale of day one, tournament host Santa Barbara (4-7) will look to get back in the win column as the Vaqueros will take on Desert (0-7). Desert came within two points of picking up their first victory in their last outing as the Roadrunners lost to Mt. San Antonio at home. Santa Barbara will look to advance to the semi finals with a win, since starting the season 3-1, the Vaqueros have lost six of their last seven games. The winner/loser of this matchup will face the Pasadena/Los Angeles Valley winner/loser and 3pm on the losers bracket side and 7pm on the winners side of the bracket.
