Coast South Conference playoff contenders

1. San Jose (19-4): The Jags are closing in on a Coast South Conference championship and are sitting at the top of the standings with five games to go. San Jose is in the mix of having a top 3 seed if they can run the rest of the table within conference. San Jose has put together one of the best resumes in Northern California as the Jags have non conference wins over Allan Hancock (2x), Las Positas, Los Medanos, Diablo Valley, Yuba, Chabot, Fresno, and within the conference the Jags have wins over West Valley twice and Gavilan. The only set back could be the four losses which could keep them from getting the top seed as the Jags have losses against a struggling Merced team, San Mateo, Monterey and San Diego this season. San Jose has De Anza, Cabrillo, Monterey, Gavilan and Hartnell left on their schedule but will wins over those teams give them enough to push them into a top two seed in the post season.

2. West Valley (20-4): The Vikings are currently in 2nd place in the Coast South Conference and in the mix of a top 5 seed as the playoffs are quickly approaching. West Valley has been solid all season long and have non conference victories over Fresno, Contra Costa, Las Positas and Chabot but will that be enough to get them into a top four slot for the post season. In conference, the Vikings lost twice to San Jose but have a victory over Gavilan and the Vikings have four games left in the regular season. West Valley will face Monterey, Gavilan, De Anza and Cabrillo but will that be enough to push them into the top 4 as the post season is right around the corner.

3. Gavilan (16-7): The Rams have played good basketball all season and have put themselves in position for a playoff bid. Gavilan has won 16 games and the Rams will look to host a first round game in the post season or maybe a first round bye. The Rams have non conference wins against Allan Hancock, Los Angeles Southwest, Marin, Ohlone, and Foothill and are 5-2 in conference action. With five games remaining, the Rams could move up or down with time remaining as Gavilan still has Cabrillo, Hartnell, West Valley, San Jose and Monterey left on their schedule. If they can pick up wins against West Valley and San Jose they could get into a single digit seed, but if not they could still end up in the low to mid range around the 10-15 area.

4. Monterey (9-12): The Lobos have some work to do as we have them as a bubble team but are looking outside as we speak. Monterey has lost three of their last four games and currently sit in a tie for fourth place in the Coast South Conference. In non conference action, the Lobos only quality win on their resume is a win against Chabot. Will that be enough to get into the post season as the Lobos have struggled in conference as well. Monterey has West Valley, De Anza, San Jose, Hartnell, and Gavilan and still has chances to pick up some quality wins but the Lobos need them within the next couple of weeks if they want to see the post season.

5. Cabrillo (10-11): The Seahawks are another bubble team that may be on the outside looking in at the moment. Cabrillo is one game under .500 and are in a tie for fourth place in Coast South Conference action. Cabrillo does have a win against Butte in non conference but the Seahawks have some work to do as the season winds down. The Seahawks have won three of their last four but will need to beat teams above them to possibly make the post season. Cabrillo has Gavilan, San Jose, Hartnell, West Valley and De Anza left on their schedule and need to pick up some wins to get into the post season.
