Pacific Coast Conference playoff contenders

1. San Diego (21-4): The Knights are in a battle for the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship with Miramar at the moment. Both teams have one loss in conference action and play this week on the campus of San Diego Miramar. San Diego has been a solid team all season long and in non conference action, the Knights have put together wins against San Jose, Yuba, and Los Angeles Southwest and have losses against Hancock, Fullerton, Citrus and Palomar. San Diego is 12-1 in conference action and have three games left against Miramar, Palomar and MiraCosta and all three times have their eyes on the post season. If San Diego can run the table we could see them in the 5-9 range when seeding comes out when the regular season finishes.

2. San Diego Miramar (21-3): The Jets seem to be in the same boat as San Diego City College as San Diego Miramar is trailing the conference race by a 1/2 game. This week, Miramar will host San Diego and the Jets have had a standout season. In non conference action, the Jets have victories over Los Angeles Harbor, Orange Coast and Moorpark and faced a couple of other conference foes in the early part of the season that will help but the Jets resume is similar to San Diego City. Miramar has only lost against San Diego in conference action and the Jets have four games left in the regular season. The Jets face Imperial Valley, MiraCosta and Cuyamaca and if the Miramar gets by San Diego we should see the Jets in the 5-9 range in the post season with a first round bye.

3. Palomar (17-7): The Comets are another team in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference that are a lock to get into the post season. Palomar has 17 wins this season and currently sits in 3rd place in the conference with a 9-3 record. In non conference, the Comets picked up wins against Long Beach and Orange Coast (won against Southwestern in non conference as well). The Comets losses this season have all come against teams that have a winning record and have a victory against San Diego and Southwestern in conference play. Palomar has four games left including a big one on Wednesday against Southwestern and also have San Diego Mesa, San Diego City and Imperial Valley. If Palomar could get another victory over San Diego or go 3-1 the Comets will have 20 wins and could be in the race to host a first round game in the post season.

4. Southwestern (14-11): The Jaguars are a much improved team this season and at the moment are on the bubble. Southwestern has 14 wins next to their name and sit in 4th place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with an 8-5 record with three games to go in the regular season. In the non conference part of their season, the Jaguars have wins over Copper Mountain, and Cypress and in conference action Southwestern has picked up a win against Palomar. Southwestern will face Palomar, Cuyamaca and San Diego Mesa to finish off the regular season but a victory against the Comets can only help but the Jaguars will need all three wins to get a legitimate chance to make the post season.
