Mahi named STLB Norcal Player of the Year

STLB Norcal Player of the Year:

Elijah Mahi (West Valley) “6-6” (Sophomore): The sophomore forward had a standout season for the Vikings as Mahi averaged 17.5 points and 6.6 rebounds in his second season for the Vikings. The forward scored over 20 points fifteen times in his sophomore season and scored a season high of 37 points against San Jose on February 2nd. The forward shot 54% from the floor and 47% from downtown and recorded four double doubles in his second season for the Vikings. The Player of the Year in the Coast South Conference had a season high of 12 rebounds and was the best player in the state. Mahi helped lead the Vikings to the state championship and scored 30 points in the championship game against Sequoias. The forward had a solid two seasons for the Vikings and will continue his career next season at Santa Clara University.

STLB Norcal Coach of the Year

Danny Yoshikawa (West Valley): Yoshikawa led the Vikings to their first state championship in the 2023-2024 season. The Vikings made history as they were the fifth team in California Junior College basketball history to go the whole season undefeated. Yoshikawa and company went undefeated in Coast South Conference play and went on to go 33-0 in the 23-24 season. The Vikings averaged 82.9 points per game and allowed 60.5 points per game this past season. In the championship game, the Vikings knocked off College of the Sequoias 59-51 and brought home the state championship.

Signal The Light Basketball Northern California 1st Team

G: Jose Cuello (Sequoias) “6-1” (Sophomore): Cuello was one of the most dynamic scoring guards in the state in his sophomore season for the Giants. The sophomore from Harlem, New York averaged 20.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists in his second season for Sequoias. The guard scored 20 or more points 16 times, scored over 30 points six times and had a season high of 33 points on three different occasions in his sophomore campaign. Cuello shot 43% from the floor, made 82 thee pointers at a 41% clip and was named the Co Most Valuable Player of the Central Valley Conference and to the All Tournament team at the state Elite Eight. Cuello ended his junior college career scoring 27 points in the championship game against West Valley and his recruitment is still open at this time with the guard receiving plenty of division one interest from across the country.

G: Zach Broadous (Chabot) “6-4” (Sophomore): The standout shooting guard had a standout season for the Gladiators in his sophomore season. Broadous averaged 19.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists in his second season for the Gladiators. Broadous scored 20 or more points fourteen times during the season and scored 30 or more twice including a season high of 32 points against San Francisco City College in conference play. The sophomore shot 45% from the floor and also made 37% of his shots from downtown. The shooting guard had five double doubles and was scored in double figures in 28 of his 29 games this season. Broadous is receiving plenty of interest at the four year level and was one of the best shooting guards in the state.

F: Devon Malcolm (Yuba) “6-5” (Sophomore): The sophomore forward had a big season for the 49ers in the 2023-2024 campaign after averaging 16.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in his second season. Malcolm shot 54% from the floor and helped lead the 49ers to a Final Four appearance to the Bay Valley Conference champions. The sophomore scored in double figures in 30 out of 31 games, scored a season high of 36 points against San Joaquin Delta during his sophomore campaign. Malcolm recorded three double doubles and at the Elite Eight averaged 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds as the 49ers lost in the semi finals against West Valley. Malcolm was named to the 1st team of the Bay Valley Conference team and is expected to play at the four year level next season.

C: Dajon “Money” Lott (Sacramento) “6-8” (Sophomore): Lott had a big season for the Panthers and helped lead Sacramento to a Big 8 Conference championship and a sweet 16 appearance in the 2023-2024 season. The sophomore standout averaged 21.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per contest and was named the Most Valuable Player in the Big 8 conference. Lott shot 58% from the floor, 37% from downtown (23-63), was 5th in the state in total rebounds, 3rd in the state in blocked shots, and 2nd in the state in defensive rebounds in his sophomore campaign. Lott scored in double figures in 28 out of 29, scored 20 or more points sixteen times, scored 30 or more three times and had a season high of 35 points against Diablo Valley in conference action. Lott had 15 double doubles, posted 15 or more rebounds six times and had a season high of 20 rebounds twice during his sophomore season. Lott is a very intriguing prospect that is flying under the radar but the sophomore is rapidly picking up interest from schools from around the nation.

Signal the Light Basketball Northern California 2nd Team

G: Kai Jordan (Columbia) “6-2” (Sophomore): The sophomore point guard had a standout season for the Claim Jumpers and helped lead the Claim Jumpers to 24 wins and a share of the Central Valley Conference championship. Jordan averaged 15.4 points, 7.4 assists and 4.7 rebounds in his sophomore campaign and was named Co Most Valuable Player in the Central Valley Conference. The point guard was 3rd in the state in assists, scored in double figures 25 out of 30 games and had a season high of 26 points against Reedley. Jordan had 10 or more assists eight times during the season and produced a season high of 12 assists against West Hills Lemoore. The sophomore shot 50% from the floor, had nine double doubles and ended the season with a 2.5 to 1 assists to turnover ratio. The guard from Arlington, Texas is another player floating under the radar but we will see him playing at the four year level next season after a solid season for the Claim Jumpers.

G: Tyreon Payne (Merced) “6-2” (Sophomore): Payne helped lead the Blue Devils to a standout season after averaging 21.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists in his sophomore season. The guard shot 51% from the floor and also was 3rd in the state in steals with 79 on the season. Payne scored in double figures in 24 games this season, scored over 20 points or more fourteen times, and scored a season high of 41 points against Cuesta on December 2nd. Payne ended the season 4th in the state in points per game, and the combo guard helped lead the Blue Devils to a playoff appearance and 21 wins. The sophomore was named to the All Central Valley Conference 1st team and is receiving division one interest from around the nation.

G: Devin Carson (Los Medanos) “6-3” (Sophomore): Carson had a standout season for the Mustangs in the 2023-2024 season after helping lead Los Medanos to 21 wins. The sophomore was a Bay Valley all conference selection after averaging 22.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. The guard scored over 20 or more points sixteen times, scored over 30 points seven times and scored a season high of 35 points against Napa Valley. Carson shot 45% from the floor, 33% from downtown (made four or more threes in a game eight times). The guard was 3rd in the state in points per game, 6th in the state in free throws made and was one of the most consistent scorers in the state. Carson is also expected to receive plenty of interest from schools around the nation.

F: Solomon Tucker (Cabrillo) “6-7” (Sophomore): The sophomore forward had a standout season for the Seahawks in the 2023-2024 season. Tucker was an all Coast South Conference 1st team selection and helped lead Cabrillo to the Elite Eight after having an impact season. The forward averaged 13.3 points and 8.6 rebounds in his sophomore season for the Seahawks while shooting 62% from the floor. Tucker was 9th in the state in blocked shots, 12th in offensive rebounding and 12th in field goal percentage. The sophomore helped lead Cabrillo to the Elite Eight and 25 wins before the Seahawks fell to Fullerton. Tucker scored in double figures 22 times in his sophomore season and had a season high of 24 points in the post season against Fresno City College. Tucker had a season high of 17 rebounds against Merced and the sophomore had seven double doubles for the Seahawks.

F: Fabian Reichstadt “6-8” (Gavilan): The sophomore from Aachen, Germany had a standout season for the Rams and proved to be an inside consistent force all season long. Reichstadt averaged 16.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Rams in the 2023-2024 season. Reichstadt shot 52% from the floor, and shot 34% from downtown in his sophomore season. Reichstadt scored 20 or more points twelve times and posted 20 or more points in seven of his last eight games of the season (six times against playoff teams and team was 5-3). Reichstadt scored a season high of 28 points against Chabot and scored in double figures 24 times in his second season and also added eight double doubles to his resume. The forward helped lead Gavilan to a second round playoff appearance and has a bright future at a four year university next season.
